The international scientific working group on ‘capacitive deionization and electrosorption’ (CDI&E) was founded in 2014 in The Johannes de Doper church in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, with representative members from the scientific community from all continents present. In the past decade the working group has significantly expanded and now includes 18 members from all regions and diverse backgrounds. The main task of the working group is the organization of scientific conferences on CDI&E of very high scientific standards. From 2014 to 2023, six conferences were organized in Europe (two times), Asia (3 times) and USA (one time), with increasingly large attendance from the scientific community involved in water technology and energy, with strong attendance both from academia and industry. The CDI&E conferences have led to many new scientific collaborations, joint projects, and joint papers, and foster a lively and engaging environment for young scientists in this field, helping their careers forward in CDI&E related scientific and industrial topics as researchers, engineers, and managers.
